Lafayette Stereo 236A tube amp

This amp is from the late 50's that actually came with the house I live in. It was in the closet and hard wired through the attic to matching Lafayette bookshelf speakers on the other side of the room. It still works, and has all the original tubes.

The bookshelf speakers were designed and built by me using Audax drivers.

Thanks. For how old it is, it still sound very good. It has a nice sweet midrange and treble. Because of it's age, the bass is a little loose sounding, but it still goes deep and sounds very full. I would love to restore it some day; maybe replace all of the caps that are most likely bad or out of spec. I'm always scared to turn it on thinking it's going to explode or something. lol

I grew up listening to all my records with this amp. Back then, I used a Garrard model 50 turntable with a Pickering V15 cartridge. I still have the turntable. It's in poor condition, but it still works.

Just as a heads-up.... you really should replace the caps in your Lafayette amp - they are only good for 20-25 years and yours are well over 50. Also don't forget the "rectifier" - old ones could cause a fire in your home. Better to be safe than sorry, as the old saying goes!
