During the past month, we've had some downtime and generally slow MySQL/HTML access from our hosting provider, Dreamhost. Last week, Our site was down for a few hours while they dealt with multiple DDoS on servers at the same data center where VinylAudio.net is hosted. Since then, Dreamhost sent out an email apologizing for the outage and stated that they plan major upgrades to their switches and the fiber network 'backbone', which will greatly increase their hosting speed capacity. They are also looking into hardware solutions to handle and contain future DDoS attacks.
Some of the updating began last night and will take until the end of the month to complete. The hosting service will not be interrupted, but we should start to see speed improvements immediately. I noticed the download cap was increased from 500k to 2.1MB, which should help pages load quicker and downloads from the gallery faster.
UPDATE: It looks like the speed increase was short lived. The download and upload limits are back, caped at 600k/sec (6Mb). We'll have to wait until the end of the month when all of the upgrades are completed to see if speeds improve.
Hopefully by the end of the month, the new hardware will be up and running which should keep VinylAudio.net running fast and smooth.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or problems, let me know.
