Keep Rega P25 or upgrade to a RP6?

I have an opportunity to buy a new Rega RP6 for $1000 and I'm wondering if I should sell my venerable P25 and 'upgrade' to a RP6. Given the upgrades to my P25 - Technoweight, Isokinetic sub-platter, white belt - is the RP6 that much better, or am I wasting my money?

Is the RB303 better than the RB600? How accurate is the 24V motor and external speed controller? Is the new hybrid sub-platter better than a solid aluminum sub-platter?

I do like the wood trim on my P25 for aesthetics, but it's not a deal breaker if the performance of the RP6 is that much better. The RP6 also comes with the P9 feet and a heavier, dampened glass platter which is a plus.

The RP8 is out of my price range since I would use the money from selling my P25 to pay for most of the RP6 purchase. Would I be wasting my time and money or do you think it's a worthwhile investment?

Another contender is the VPI Traveler. It's a simple turntable, more along the lines of the basic Scout, but what intrigues me is the new, gimbaled tone arm which is a big departure for VPI's usual uni-pivot arm designs. The reviews of the Traveler are very positive, I've seen comparisons with the RP3-24 and the reviewer preferred the Traveler by such a wide margin you would think his RP3-24 was broken by comparison. Is it really that much better than a Rega? Could it be better than a RP6? Better than my P25?

Well I can't help you with the choice, because I've got no experience with Rega or VPI Turntables. I can only say this: are you satisfied with your P25? If so, why buying a new turntable?
If you really need to improve your sound then OK, go for the RP6, but keep in mind that you're going to sell the P25, and you'll not be able to go back, in case you don't like the RP6, or if your ZYX cartridges won't like the new Rega arm.
Do you need to improve your sound, or you're just tempted by the $1000 opportunity? 

Well, I am tempted by the price and I'm kinda itching to try something new. Overall, I'm satisfied with the P25 except for the speed being slightly fast. To fix the speed issue, I could buy the 24V motor upgrade and add on a TT-PSU speed controller, but at that point I would be spending more than what it costs to just sell the P25 and buy the RP6. Plus, it would be nice to have something new to write a review on for the website.

Since VinylAudio.net is small and unknown; and I'm not some famous magazine reviewer, manufacturers are reluctant to loan any products out for me to write reviews on. So, if I want to write a review, I have to buy it first. It must be nice to be a large organization where packages arrive daily with the latest audio gear to be reviewed with the option to buy it at a large discount. Maybe in a few more years, but I doubt it.

If the RP6 retains the same Rega 'house' sound that I know and love, the Zyx should be right at home. The bigger leap of faith would be how the Zyx sounds on the VPI since the new gimbaled arm is very different. It could be an amazing improvement or a huge disappointment. I would hate to get 'stuck' with something I don't like and not have the ability to go back to what worked. Hmm...

In this case I'd get the RP6 and avoid the VPI. You were already disappointed by VPI, and since you're upgrading for your personal taste and not to make reviews for magazines, the Rega seems a wiser and safer choice.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I had a P25 and decided to upgrade to a P7 almost two years ago.  While the P25 is a very nice table, the P7 betters it in almost every way-better dynamics, better tonal balance, better imaging, better speed stability etc.  The RP6 is a direct replacement to the P5 but I understand that it competes favorably with the P7.  I picked the P7 over the P5 because I thought the P7 a better deal than the P5.  My P25 was stock-so your upgrade to an RP6 might not be as dramatic as mine was.  All I can tell you is that I'm very happy with the purchase.
