A few months ago I managed to modify my Revox A77 to high speed, running @ 15IPS. I'm in the process of writing an in-depth article on how I accomplished the modification.
In the mean time, here's a couple sample recordings of the Revox @ 15ips, using Maxell UD 35-180 tape.
Sissel - 'Don't Go Outta Here'
Jordan Rudess & Rod Morgenstein - 'Drop The Puck'
Jorden Rudess & Rod Morgenstein - 'Odd Man Out'
Harry James and His Big Band - 'Roll 'Em'
All of the files are 320k .mp3 files. Keep in mind, the tape I am using is over 30 years old. In some of the recordings, you can hear low level audio in quiet parts of songs. I think the strength of the erase head was not high enough to deal with the faster moving tape and did not fully erase the tape as it passed over.
What do you think?
